On the 28th of August 2016 Google Google invited me to become a Local Guide, which I take as an honour and good fun as it tells me that some of my photos are good enough to be used in Google Maps to help others to find their way and learn more about their destinations. You can do this yourself too and earn some benefits and marketing exposure.
When I joined, I never thought, that a photo of an Iranian Restaurant in a Viennese suburb (Pars) could be viewed more than 20,000 times within 3 weeks or that the view from my balcony in Dubai is seen more than 20,000 times. The results of what is popular and what is not is sometimes really surprising. Anyhow, it doesn't earn any money, but it's good fun. Consider to contribute yourself. Google will ask you automatically when you click on my photos.
After passing the 1.0M views mark Google stopped congratulating me to new records but rather focuses on the number of photos contributed as the following email from the 25th of October shows.

Mission accomplished. More than 1,000,000 Million views :-)))

Hahahaha, today I received a 500,000 congratulations email with a counter of 756,000 total views. That's funny. More important is my new star, the beautiful cradle of Austrian democracy, The Belvedere Palace. I uploaded the photo on the 22nd of October. 37,000 views in 20 days, yeah!

450,000 is a really odd number to congratulate so I conclude that the following emails are being sent every Tuesday and I just missed the one from the 20th of September somehow.
Using the known figures, calculating an estimate for the 20th of September and doing some trending with a spreadsheet I should hit the 1 Million mark around the 26th of October. :-)

Not sure if there was no email last week or if it got missing somehow. Maybe Google waited for me to reach the 250k mark.

This email was sent by Google Maps to me on the 13th of September 2016. It's the follow up on the previous email from the 6th of September 2016. Looks like Google sends out these Emails every week

This email was sent by Google Maps to me on the 6th of September 2016. It made me very proud when I received it. However, there is a follow up email by now which came one week later.
